Huddersfield Town Squad Depth 2021/22 analysed

04/08/21

Town are approaching their third season in the Championship after relegation from the Premier League, with it being the first summer where there were no more Premier League transfer fee/ wage obligations. It was a reset, 16 players in the first-team squad were out of contract at the end of last year. Town had a chance to totally clear out their squad if they wanted to.
Town have so far signed Lee Nicholls, Josh Ruffels, Ollie Turton, Levi Colwill, Jordan Rhodes, Matty Pearson, Tom Lees and Danel Sinani, while Town have only loaned out Kieran Phillips and Rarmani Edmonds-Green.
So what does Town's squad depth look like? and do they need to strengthen any further?

Wide Players

Wide players is not an area where Town are in much need of improving, it could be argued that it's their strongest area. Josh Koroma who is predicted be the Team's leading source of goals will operate down the left, Town then have Rolando Aarons and Danny Grant as back up to Josh. On the right Town have Duane Holmes, Sorba Thomas - who has really impressed in pre-season and Aaron Rowe. Isaac Mbenza seems to be frozen out as the club look to sell him.
Since the winger debacle in the Premier League, Town have managed to bring through some very good wingers. Koroma really emulated the impact that Karlan Grant had off the left as an inverted winger. Aaron Rowe burst through last season, while Sorba Thomas could manage the same this season.
The most important thing concerning wide players at Town is that Isaac Mbenza is not still a Huddersfield Town player come the end of the window, as he is still on a huge wage after Town triggered a contract extension clause. Maybe you could argue that Town does not have enough creative wingers, but Town will be relying upon them to chip in with the bulk of their goals next season.
