Huddersfield Town Squad Depth 2021/22 analysed

04/08/21

Town are approaching their third season in the Championship after relegation from the Premier League, with it being the first summer where there were no more Premier League transfer fee/ wage obligations. It was a reset, 16 players in the first-team squad were out of contract at the end of last year. Town had a chance to totally clear out their squad if they wanted to.
Town have so far signed Lee Nicholls, Josh Ruffels, Ollie Turton, Levi Colwill, Jordan Rhodes, Matty Pearson, Tom Lees and Danel Sinani, while Town have only loaned out Kieran Phillips and Rarmani Edmonds-Green.
So what does Town's squad depth look like? and do they need to strengthen any further?

Forwards

A position that divides fans across Huddersfield for many seasons, but last season Town went through strikers like it was going out of fashion. Eight different players were used in the striker position across last season, while Oumar Niasse never even managed to get onto the pitch due to injury.
This season, Town have three designated strikers: Fraizer Campbell, Danny Ward and Jordan Rhodes. All three are quite different from each other. Campbell is a defensive striker, who is good for seeing out games and bringing others into play. Rhodes on the other hand is an old-fashioned number 9, who cares only about scoring goals. Ward is more of a mix of Campbell and Rhodes, and probably will be the lead striker *if* he can keep fit throughout the season.
I think Town have a good set of forwards, but it comes down to whether they get the service needed as Ward is probably the only forward who could produce his own chance.
