Yaya Sanogo signed for Town on the 24th February 2021 after his release from Toulouse the previous July. He signed an initial deal until the end of the season, marking his return to English football after his release from Arsenal at the end of the 2016/17 season. Yaya signed for Arsenal back in 2013 off the back of winning the U-20 world cup with France. After a troubled time at Arsenal and a number of loan moves away, Sanogo never lived up to his early shown potential and left the club upon the expiry of his contract. Yaya then signed a three year deal with Toulouse where he scored 16 goals in 72 games.
Yaya is 6ft3, making him a good aerial target. He adds a different dimension to the Town attack and allows Town to play a long ball. He has shown he works best when there is another player playing off him like Fraizer Campbell. On his full debut, Sanogo missed a penalty in a home draw with Cardiff City, a game that finished 0-0. The miss overshadowed what was a great game from the Frenchman and it was the first time that Town didn't lose in 4 games with the bluebirds. Most of that was down to Sanogo allowing the ball to be hit long, providing a key outlet if the defence was under pressure.
