Huddersfield Town vs Middlesbrough

Competition: EFL Championship Matchday 14

Date: 28/11/2020

Score: 3-2

Ground: John Smith Stadium

A very wet John Smith Stadium hosted the Championship's meanest defence against a Huddersfield side that had only won once in their last seven. Pre-match a minutes applause was held in memory of the late great Diego Maradona who sadly passed away this week at the age of 60.
Town struggled to get going in the first 30 minutes and rightly went behind in the 14th minute to a Marvin Johnson strike having only just been let off as Britt Assombalonga missed an open goal following a cross. The 'Boro looked like they were going to extend their run of only 1 defeat in 16 against Town, but Town was thrown a lifeline in the 37' as Josh Koroma rolled the ball to Carel Eiting on the edge of the 'Boro box who let fly and scored his 3rd goal in 4 games.
Town took the lead in the 45' minute as Lewis O'Brien brilliantly disposed a 'Boro midfielder and led a fast break with Isaac Mbenza on the left and Fraizer Campbell on the right, Lewis passed to Campbell who wriggled through in the box before hitting it home.
No changes were made going into the second half, except for the one enforced change in the first half for Town, after Stearman went down injured and Rarmani Edmonds-Green came on in his place.
Town started the second half brightly and looked likely to extend their league, Josh Koroma made a brilliant 50 yard run with the ball before being hacked down by a defender.
For all Town's hard work it looked like they would end the game without all three points. In the 83' minute, Naby Sarr went to ground in the Town area and the referee pointed to the spot, although the replays showed Sarr touched neither the ball nor the player. Britt Assombalonga made no mistake from the spot sending Schofield the wrong way.
Town clearly aggrieved by the decision, wasted no time to get back in front. Harry Toffolo passed to Josh Koroma, who brilliantly dribbled with the ball in the box with many defenders around him, before scoring a goal that Karlan Grant would have been proud of as he cut in onto his right foot and fired home, putting Town 3-2 up.
The game ended 3-2 to Town and recorded their second win in six games. A brilliant team effort against a very well-coached Neil Warnock side. The result propels Town up to 13th in the table, 1 place above their next opponents - Cardiff whom they play on Tuesday.
Town's next game is matchday 15 in the EFL Championship on Tuesday (01/12/2020) away to Cardiff City.
