Brentford vs Huddersfield Town

Competition: EFL Championship Matchday 2

Date: 19/09/2020

Ground: Brentford Community Stadium

It was a difficult start last week for Brentford just weeks since their play-off heartbreak against Fulham. The ‘Bees’ will be hoping to bounce back against Town after a 1-0 loss on the opening day of the season at Birmingham City. With this being said, Brentford beat Southampton 2-0 midweek to progress to the 3rd Round of the EFL Cup.
Town on the other hand will be wanting to keep up their good record against the London based side, with Town having won 3, drawn 1 and lost 1 in their last five games. Goals are guaranteed in this fixture. Town have only failed to score in 1 out the last 12 encounters while there also being 43 goals between the two sides in that time.
The Brentford Community Stadium is set to make its Championship bow. Although, Brentford have played one competitive fixture here before, it was a League Cup first round game vs Wycombe. Town were unbeaten against Brentford last season, winning at Griffin Park 1-0 courtesy of a Karlan Grant special and a 0-0 draw at home.
However, if Town fail to score against Brentford it will be the first time in 28 years that they failed to score in their opening 2 fixtures. In 1992/93 Town failed to score against Bolton Wanderers and West Bromwich Albion. It would be gameweek 4 in that season before Phil Starbuck finally scored against Leyton Orient in a 4-1 loss. Whilst you may think that this season’s start is difficult against Norwich and Brentford, we have definitely had it tougher in the last 28 years. During the 18/19 season, Town started against Chelsea and Manchester City and still managed to score in the City game.
The game gets underway at 3PM, Saturday, 19/09/2020 at the Brentford Community Stadium.

Pre-Match Team News:

Town will be without Danny Ward and Lewis O’Brien while Fraizer Campbell and Matty Daly have completed a full week of training so could be available.
Naby Sarr also remains unavailable after as he has not completed his two week quarantine.
There is still no news on the future of Karlan Grant, after completing the first half against Bradford in pre-season, Karlan has not featured again for Town. It is reported that Grant is a target of newly promoted Premier League side West Brom. So it looks like he won’t feature for the third game running.
Brentford will be without first choice ‘keeper David Raya and winger Saïd Benrahma - a player that contributed to 28 of their goals last season, both of whom have not been involved in pre-season due to their expected transfer to a Premier League club. It is also unclear if Pontus Jansson and £10 million summer signing Ivan Toney are available.
